Dermal Fillers FAQ's

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injections that can restore volume loss, reduce wrinkling and enhance facial features. The primary ingredient of most fillers is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and retains moisture. Levels of hyaluronic acid decrease in the body with age, resulting in sagging skin, thinner lips, sunken cheeks and the formation of wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid fillers restore that moisture and can even add additional fullness, if you desire.

How long do results last?

Fillers can last anywhere from 6 months up to 2 years. Fillers injected where the muscles frequently move, such as around the mouth, tend to be reabsorbed by the body more quickly than those placed in relatively immobile areas.

Is there any downtime after getting Dermal Fillers?

Recovery from dermal fillers is minimal. For about 6 hours after your appointment, avoid touching the treated area. For a week after treatment, avoid NSAIDs, aspirin, St John’s wort and vitamin E supplements, as well as exposure to extreme temperatures.

Is it painful?

The amount of pain you feel during treatment depends largely on your pain tolerance. If you wish, our nurse can apply a topical numbing cream before your injections. Additionally, some of our products contain lidocaine, a numbing agent. We’ll also ice the area immediately after your treatment to reduce pain and swelling.
